RUBY GROUP TO OPEN SECOND HOTEL IN COLOGNE

Ruby Hotels, the Munich-based hotel brand and pioneer of the ‘Lean Luxury’ philosophy, today announces plans for its second property in Cologne, Germany, to open in Q3, 2022. The new hotel will follow the opening of the brand’s first Cologne property next year.

The hotel will be centrally located in the trendy neighbourhood of Ehrenfeld, Cologne’s hotspot for creative minds. A collaboration with real estate partner Metropol Immobiliengruppe, the new project at Ehrenfeldgürtel 125 will combine 165 rooms and adjoining co-working spaces. The new Ruby location will enjoy a city-centre location with excellent links to public transport, with the rail station opposite the hotel offering a direct connection to Cologne/Bonn Airport and Cologne Central Station.

Special offers for extended stays

For longer stays, the new Ruby hotel will offer ‘RESIDENT rooms’, with more space in the room and an additional wardrobe and fridge. Instead of a typical kitchenette, the RESIDENT rooms have access to a fully-equipped co-cooking and co-dining area, creating a local community of like-minded people. “In human history, cooking or sharing a meal together has always been an important part of how communities are formed and fostered ”, says Ruby Founder and CEO Michael Struck.

Ruby has named its new product ‘Ruby Places’, thereby transferring the sharing economy’s co-living approach to the extended-stay segment for the first time. Guests will find a ‘Galley’ kitchen on each floor with complimentary hot drinks, a vending machine offering local snacks as well as an ironing station, washing machine and dryer.

Combination with co-working

In addition to the extended-stay rooms, the new project in Ehrenfeld will also feature co-working spaces of almost 2,500 m². When designing the Ruby Workspaces concept, it is important to the creators that they feel not like conventional offices, but rather a second home for the tenants. The design is therefore more like that of a boutique hotel or a charming apartment: wall paneling and curtains, vintage furniture and atmospheric lighting shape the studio-like rooms while culinary events and concerts take place regularly.

"For us, the perfect place to work is a place that is more than just about work. A place that connects you with like-minded people. A place where you feel good and are in good hands," explains Struck of Ruby's co-working product. The price concept is deliberately kept simple: Straight-forward pricing includes high-speed WiFi, a print quota, a reception and concierge service as well as a free selection of beverages. The package also includes a contingent of hours for the use of the multifunctional event and meeting rooms.

Lean Luxury philosophy

Everything follows Ruby's Lean Luxury philosophy: a location in the heart of the city, genuine design and high-quality furnishings. "At Ruby, luxury means casual comfort and intuitive design, inspiring people, an authentic environment and the freedom to make every stay unique," says Struck, explaining the group's philosophy. “Lean stands for the ability to make big things out of small areas, keeping the processes behind the scenes lean and not having to pay for things you don't need.”

Triple concept offers synergies

The combination of hotel, extended-stay offer and co-working creates operational synergies by sharing sales, cleaning, technical maintenance and personnel management functions. Space efficiency also increases as various space areas serve several uses. The fact that co-working and extended-stay guests share the co-cooking and co-dining area also increases the attractiveness of the offer for both user groups: for some, it means new contacts and inspirations, for others a connection to a local community.

Strong real estate partner

A collaboration with Metropol Immobiliengruppe, Ruby will rebuild the former postal distribution center over the next two years. The property was brokered by the real estate agents Savills, while GSK Stockmann represented Ruby in the negotiation of the lease agreement.
